Nearly 50,000 new voters registered in New York in the six weeks leading up to the Super Tuesday presidential primary registration deadline, with some counties getting less than 100 new voters, and some close to 10,000.
And they did not break evenly: though Republicans had a slight edge in some places, new Democrats outnumbered new Republicans by wide margins in many counties—7,380 to 1,049 in Manhattan, 5,780 to 620 in Brooklyn and upstate, 1,139 to 427 in Erie. The state totals are even starker: combined across New York, 38,302 new Democrats registered compared to just 11,430 Republicans
